What Exactly Are Coffee Bags and How Can You Use Them?

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi March 16, 2018
What Exactly Are Coffee Bags

Coffee bags are very popular nowadays with the increasing consumption of coffee throughout the world. There are actually two types of bags: bigger ones called burlap sacks and smaller, single serve sizes. For the individual types, if you don’t know how they look, think of tea bags. They look pretty much the same.

You can use such a coffee bag to brew an individual coffee. It has enough strength that it can safely withstand hot water. This is why people love putting the bags in the water as the resulting coffee has a better aroma than using just the coffee on its own. At the back there is a string that ensures that the coffee bags are safe while it’s in the hot water and doesn’t come apart.

On the other hand, burlap coffee bags are bigger and can hold the coffee during transportation from one place to another, from the farmer to the supplier or warehouse. They are usually white, cream or brown in color and have quite some interesting textures.

What Exactly Are Coffee Bags

When it comes to burlap coffee bags, you can get those that are constructed with a lot of care and are also available in various sizes. While the table coffee bags are meant to be dipped into water, one can also consider those which are much larger in size and are meant to transport coffee from one place to another. As a matter of fact, you can have the smaller half pound bags or larger 1-5 pound bags, which can be used as per your needs and requirements. The main advantage of using these special bags is that these help to keep not only coffee but also other food stuffs quite fresh for a very long time.

One can use particular bags that are made of jute. The jute fibers are quite strong and resilient which are able to impart the same properties to the coffee bag. After all, when you are using the bag, you would not like the coffee to spill or the bag to get ruptured. It is also possible to get such bags in various vivid colors. While the classic tan is the most common, it is possible to get more gaudy and attractive color schemes too. In case, you would like to get more information on these bags, do look online and select one that suits your needs.

They are made of jute, a strong fiber that doesn’t come apart very easily. It takes lots of pressure that’s why it is very popular with the coffee exporters. These bags can hold quite a lot of coffee in them, as much as 60-70 kg. There are also smaller ones in size carrying between half a pound to five pounds. They are originally used by coffee farmers and as they have a perfect air penetration, they release a great coffee aroma long after they are no longer used.

Did you know that you can stuff a mattress with the burlap material? This makes your mattress quite eco-friendly. If you are interested in reusable bags, burlap is a common choice. You can use these bags as shopping totes. Reusing them helps the environment.

Some people even make curtains from these sacks due to their interesting texture. Others are using them in their garden as a biodegradable weed barrier or an outdoor tablecloth. Many coffee shops actually give you burlap bags for free when you buy your coffee from them if you ask nicely.
