Presenting a masterpiece dinner to your guests is the first goal of any dinner party, of course, but you want to make sure your table and dining room have that extra touch that can turn an ordinary gathering into something exceptional. Decorating for dinner parties doesn’t have to be a difficult, expensive endeavor either, which is great news as you’re going to want to concentrate on preparation, cooking and serving. However, there are a few things to keep in mind that can really wow your guests.
Consider Alternate Lighting
Instead of using your ordinary kitchen or dining room lights (which may be quite harsh), turn them down or bring out the candles. They can add an attractive glow to the room and boost the ambiance. Candles are versatile and come in many shapes and sizes, so experiment with different groupings of your favorite kinds and colors. Avoid scented candles, though, which can interfere with the aroma of your food. Another option for alternate lighting is string or spot lighting. Use them to highlight certain areas — for example, the buffet to the side loaded up with desserts for later.
Add a Bouquet of Roses as a Centerpiece
A centerpiece draws the room’s attention, and can play up a chosen theme or lend an air of elegance to your dinner table. While you can take time to create something beautiful yourself, ordering a bouquet of roses will save you heaps of time — time you can spend on putting together an amazing meal for your guests. Roses are always a classy choice.
Use Solid Colors
Think about your table, first of all. Adding a tablecloth is an easy first step, and for an extra “wow” factor, put down a crisp, white table covering. If you’re not ready to commit with something that might be high maintenance, however, choose another solid-colored tablecloth. Red is a great choice for your dinner party. Using solid-colored plates, bowls and other tableware is another easy choice, as you can mix and match the pieces to the table itself.
Don’t Overdo It
It can be easy to get carried away with different types of dinner party decor, but there definitely is too much of a good thing. Using too many centerpieces can clutter the table, for example, and can actually interfere with the flow of conversation if things are at face height. One quality piece that is either above your line of sight or below it is ideal, unless you have a longer table that can support several pieces. Consider the comfort of your guests, too — you want to make sure there is plenty of room for your friends or family to feel comfortable and not crowded. Also, you may get an extra guest or two, so you might have to make room for another table setting at a moment’s notice, and the more room you have available, the better.
With just a few things to keep in mind, it’s easy to decorate for your next dinner party, and you don’t have to go out of your way to do so. Just a few sweet, classy touches will do it, and your guests will remember both your food and the amazing setting.
