Chai Tea is another popular tea among tea lovers and here is how Chai tea came out for me. Before trying this recipe, I had few doubts because of few different recipes I found in different sites. Finally, I tried the recipe I found in Realsimple.com and this is a really easy recipe for Chai tea.
Instead of tea bags, I used black tea leaves and these teas are from Sri Lanka. Using some high quality Ceylon black tea leaves, I could prepare a spicy but warm cup of tea which I want to try again and again.
In Sri Lanka, we prepare tea with ginger, so we like to taste tea with bit of spices. However, chai tea is bit spicier than a cup of ginger tea due to the other spices such as cardamom, cloves and cinnamon. But still it soothes and good for anyone who wants to spend an evening sipping a cup of tea.
With a base of sweet spices and some heat with ginger and peppercorns Chai tea gives me a perfect taste which I can only beat for a cup of ginger tea.
To make your chai tea flavorful, always use fresh spices and ingredients together with a good quality black tea. With no doubt, Ceylon tea will give you a perfect steep.
Recipe:Chai Tea with Ceylon Black Tea
Ingredients (for 2 cups of tea)
4 cardamom seeds
4 cloves
2 black peppercorns
1 cinnamon stick or about 2 inch cinnamon piece
1-inch piece of fresh ginger
1 cup of fresh milk
2 tspn Ceylon black tea
2 teaspoons sugar or as per taste
Method
Grind or crush cardamom, cloves, and peppercorns.
Place the crushed spices in a saucepan, add the cinnamon stick, ginger and milk in it. Also add 1 cup of water and bring it to boil in low heat.
When milk is boiled, remove it from heat. Then add black tea and cover.
Steep for 3-4 minutes.(or steep for more than 5 minutes if you like your tea to be more darker.
Strain to serving cups. Add sugar as per taste.
Chai tea is ready to serve.
