Pickled Green Chillies Recipe

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi August 30, 2015
Pickled Green Chilli

I first tasted these pickled green chillies in Singapore, because most of the time these are one of condiments served with Chinese fried rice. Not only fried rice, these pickled green chilies are accompanied by many other Chinese dishes such as stir fried noodles (Fried Bee Hoon).

Well, if you are a Sri Lankan you may expect a hot pickle. But, that’s not true. Instead, this green chili pickle is with mild hot, and sweet taste. You can even try this Green peppercorn pickle for new flavour!

We usually find this finger-length green chili in Singapore, which are not much hot as bird’s eye chili or another small version of green chili. However, my suggestion is that if you can’t find this long green chili, then why don’t you go with any type of green chili that you have? However, the taste of your chili pickle will vary as per the green chili type you use in the pickle.

On the other way, it is really easy to buy a bottle of pickled green chili from any Asian grocery store. But, spend a few minutes and make your homemade pickled chili. You’ll find how amazingly your homemade green chili pickle tastes.

To make this chili pickle, simply slice green chilies. Wash with hot water and mix with vinegar solution.

Store in a glass bottle till it is ready to serve. That’s it.

Here is the recipe for Green chili pickle. If you try this recipe, don’t forget to leave me a comment with your experience.

Recipe: Pickled Green Chillies

Ingredients

5-6 green chilies
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1 tbsp sugar or as per taste
1/4 tsp salt or as per taste

Utensil

A glass bottle to store

Directions

Wash and slice green chilies into thin slices. Place chili in a bowl of hot water for about 20 seconds and drain water. Add these drained chili slices into the glass bottle.

In a bowl mix rice vinegar, salt, and sugar. Just test the taste and adjust the salt and sugar as required.

Pour this vinegar mix on chili slices which is in the glass bottle.

Close the lid tightly and store it in the refrigerator.

Pickled green chili will be ready to serve in a few hours or overnight. (When they turn lighter, these are ready to serve.)
