Healthy Tasty Snacks for When Using Public Transportation

written by Food Corner March 14, 2019
Snacks for When Using Public Transportation

Many of us use public transport each day to get us from A to B, whether it be to see family and friends or heading to work. Being on the go all day can be tiring, so it’s important to keep your body fueled. With that in mind, here are a selection of healthy and tasty snacks for when using public transportation.

Jerky

One of the most convenient and handy snacks to take with you on public transport is jerky. High in protein, beef jerky contains a remarkable seven grams per ounce, ensuring you stay full and fueled for the day ahead. There are all different types of jerky including salmon and chicken. Found at many grocery stores, you can easily find some jerky to bring with you when on the go. However, bear in mind that many store-bought products are usually high in added sugar, so it’s advised to make your own. Also, when packing food for train travel, make sure your jerky is kept in an airtight container.

Trail Mix

A combination of nuts and dried fruit, a trail mix is another fantastic snack that you can have when getting from A to B. If you are feeling adventurous, why not combine your trail mix with grains and chocolate? Not only is it a fantastic source of protein, a trail mix is a tasty treat to keep you going throughout the day. You can also increase your protein intake by adding pistachios or almonds. Trail mix is a good option if you are looking for foods that travel well without refrigeration.

Yogurt Dip and Vegetables

Veggie Cups with Mustard Dip

While vegetables can be fantastic for snacking, they are not very high in protein alone. To add extra protein, you can pair your veggies with a yoghurt dip. Usually made by combining flavorings and herbs with yogurt, this snack can be a great way to start your day, especially if you are facing a long bus journey. Knowing what to bring on long bus rides can make all the difference, so ensure you are armed with all your favorite treats and snacks to help pass the time and keep you feeling full.

Peanut Butter Celery Sticks

Another healthy and protein rich snack you can take with you on public transport is peanut butter celery sticks. Simply add one or two tablespoons of peanut butter to a snack pot with a separate compartment for chopped celery to create a delicious and straightforward snack. As the peanut butter is full of protein, you will feel fuller for longer which will keep you going between meals.

Protein Bars

Another tasty snack you should check out is protein bars. As an easy way to get your daily protein fix, they are much healthier if you create your own, rather than purchasing one from a store. Many store versions are full of added sugar. There are tons of quick and easy protein bar recipes online, allowing you to use a wide range of ingredients that are sure to satisfy your taste buds.

Overnight Oatmeal

If you want a snack that is portable, full of nutrients, and incredibly straightforward to make, overnight oatmeal may be the perfect option for you. Rich in protein and full of vitamins and minerals, you can be certain your snack is healthy, tasty and filling. This is the perfect choice for the morning commute.

Public transport journeys can get incredibly boring; however, they can be a great time to snack to help keep you active, motivated and ready for what life throws at you. With a whole range of tasty and nutritious snacks to select from, you’re bound to find something perfect for you.
