written by Food Corner May 16, 2019
Food Ideas Eid Feast

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, not even consuming water. Food takes on a special significance throughout this fasting period. The end of Ramadan is traditionally marked with an enthusiastic family feast starting from breakfast to lunch. Eid is a time of celebration and joy and like any festive occasion, we tend to celebrate with food. We’ve rounded up our favourite healthy food ideas for the upcoming 2019 Eid feast.

1. Man’oushe

A popular breakfast option for Eid, this Lebanese street food is crispy on the outside, slightly chewy on the inside, and topped with the most aromatic of spice blends – Za’atar. When eaten with a thin crust and wholegrain dough, this dish transforms into a low carb, high fibre food. Add some labneh and veggies to it for protein and vitamins. Man’oushe Street offers some of the best toppings in town.

2. Sheer Khurma

This sweet vermicelli dessert is a popular breakfast and dessert option for Muslims during Eidin Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. It is prepared with vermicelli, milk, dates, sugar, and, topped with almond or dried fruits. Some simple ingredient swaps can help you prepare the dish in a healthier way. As per this recipe on The Economic Times, you can use toned milk instead of full-fat, brown sugar in place of refined and limit the amount of Ghee.

3. Gourmet Filled Dates

Rich in various nutrients, fibre, and antioxidants, dates are eaten daily during Ramadan and considered a highly versatile superfood. Whether plain or filled, dates are worth adding to your Eid feast table in 2019, as they are both wholesome and delicious. Bateel’s gourmet filled dates are grown organically which helps in retaining natural flavour and essential nutrients. Treat yourself to Bateel’s flavourful dates’ Ramadan Eid gifts filled with dried fruits for a healthy post-lunch treat.

4. Lamb Tagine

This hearty Eid dishis widely eaten in North African countries like Morocco and Algeria. It is a slow-cooked stew prepared with meat (often lamb or beef), with vegetables and/or fruits like plums and apricots. The combination of fragrant spices, fruit and honey helps to cut through the richness of the lamb in this recipe. With added anti-inflammatory benefits, this dish also tenderizes the meat without oxidizing fats. We found just the place for you!Head over to Tagine restaurant at The Palacefor a true taste of MoroccanTagine.

5. Biryani

Biryani

One of the most prominent Eid dishes across the globe is none other than the classic Biryani. Meat, rice and spice all combine harmoniously in one satisfying dish that packs carbs, proteins, healthy fats, minerals and vitamins. While chicken is the most favoured, it’s common to find a range of meats feature when Eid is in play. We recommend you try the Chicken Dum Biryani from Jodhpur Royal Dining. The royal-themed restaurant offers one of the best biryanis in the country!
