Malaysian Roti Canai, Another Delicious Roti Recipe

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi November 25, 2012

Malaysian Roti Canai
Roti Canai is another delicious Roti we could taste in Malacca. Being a Foodie, I can’t wait until I try a recipe at home after trying in a restaurant. The taste & the method of Roti Canai is bit similar to Singapore Roti Prata or Sri Lankan Godamba Roti. Anyway as I remember,I haven’t post any of the recipes before.
Here is my try of making Malaysian Roti Canai at home.

Malaysian Roti Canai
Ingredients (5-6 Roti)
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup butter or ghee
1/2 cup water or as required
Salt to taste
Method
Making this Roti is easy. Please refer the photos for each steps.

Add flour & salt together & sift into a medium bowl.
Add ghee or butter into flour mixture. (I used butter)
Gradually add water & make a dough.
Knead the dough on a cleaned & greased counter top for about 5 minutes.
Place the dough  in a bowl and allow  rest for at least 2 hours.
After 2 hours(minimum),

Take a small ball of the dough.
On a very cleaned & greased counter top, place the dough and roll the dough as much as thin. Spread some oil on top of roti when you rolling. Turn it both side & roll again.
After that slowly fold the roti in four sides into a small roti.
Heat a non-stick pan & place the Roti. Cook both sides.
Roti Canai is ready to serve.

This is matching with Malaysian Chicken Kapitan or Sri Lankan Dhal Curry. I added Pol Sambal also into my menu & it was a nice combination.
Have you tasted Malaysian roti canai before? Or otherwise, give this a try. If you make Malaysian roti canai, dont forget to share a comment with us.
