Calamansi Juice / Naran Juice

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi July 8, 2013

Calamansi Juice

Calamansi Juice /Naran juice

Calamansi is a type of small lime similar to ‘Naran’ in Sri Lanka. This vitamin C rich fruit has lot of health benefits.

Here in Singapore,I usually use this Calamansi in most of my cooking instead of lime. I love its taste and also the size. If I buy lime, most of the time, a  part of it is thrown after few days as I don’t use lime every day. But this Calamansi (Limau Kasturi/Naran) is small and no more wastage of remaining wedges. Also the taste of it is between orange and a lime, not much sour. For recipes such as katta sambola or even for gotukola sambola,I use these calamansi fruits instead of lime although the taste is bit different.

Naran-Sri Lanka

Calamansi / Naran

This Calamansi Juice is a simple juice which can be prepared in few minutes and a good treat for the summer.
Ingredients: (for 2 glasses)

5-6 calamansi, (Naran/Limau Kasturi) cut into halves
sugar as per taste
Water 1 3/4 glasses
Ice cubes
Method:
Dissolve sugar in water and make the syrup.
Squeeze the calamansi juice into a glass. Add prepared syrup and ice.
Stir well.
Serve & Enjoy!
Calamansi Juice
Optional: In Sri Lanka,we add a drop of salt to this drink.

I use calamansi for my cooking too, mostly for the Asian savory dishes. Its also a good substitute for the lime and at times for lemons too.

This drink is much loved and what a lovely thirst quencher.

I like your presentation of juice. “Juice” the name seems healthy. I love juice very much. I need it in every morning with my breakfast. Noni juice in my favorite juice.

Very interesting Amila! We have a lot of limes in Jamaica. It would be great to try calamansi someday. The drink looks so refreshing. Just perfect for these hot days. Have a wonderful week.
