Pan Fried Prawns with Soy Sauce

This pan fried prawn with soy sauce is easy to cook and you will only need a few minutes. However, the secret behind this recipe lies in fresh prawns. If you do not choose fresh prawns, the dish may not look appealing or delicious. Therefore, before sharing the recipe, I will share some tips on choosing fresh prawns too shared by some famous Asian chefs. Why do I want to share such tips from Asian chefs? There are reasons for that.

Why Chef recipes?

We all know that there is a significant difference between home-cooked food and food from a restaurant. This is where chef recipes are really worth trying. While home-cooked foods are mostly based on passed down recipes from generation to generation, chef recipes are innovative and improved with different ingredients and techniques.  Chef recipes include correct measurements and ingredients that help in cooking the dish without failing. However, in traditional recipes, sometimes there are no exact lists of ingredients or amounts. Most of the time, the ingredient quantities for a dish are based on the person’s skills and taste.

Therefore, I thought it is worth sharing some chef recipes from Asia to inspire you all with new ideas to cook delicious food. Asian food recipes are popular around the world due to different reasons including a variety of ingredients, taste, health benefits, and the way of coking. Some of these recipes are really easy to cook although there are some Asian recipes that need some time for preparation. Anyway, below are some tips on choosing fresh prawns which is the secret behind a delicious dish of pan fried prawns with soy sauce.

According to MasterChef Lap Fai, it is important to buy fresh prawns for a delicious prawn dish. He recommends choosing prawns without black spots. Other than that, he also recommends using quality sauces for seasoning.

Hailing from Hong Kong, chef Lap Fai is well known for his creative classics such as Double-boiled Chicken Soup with Sea Whelk and Baked Empress Chicken and Chinese Herb. His award-winning signature dishes have earned a reputation for Hua Ting Restaurant as well as Singapore as a country.

Always keep in mind that the prawns you buy should not smell fishy. It should smell fresh. Be sure to avoid dried prawns and prawns with cracked shells. After all, fresh prawns should look moist too.

With these tips, I am sure you can easily buy fresh prawns for cooking this simple yet delicious Pan Fried Prawns with Soy Sauce which is an Asian chef inspired recipe.

Recipe: Pan Fried Prawns with Soy Sauce (Chef Recipes from Asia)

Pan Fried Prawns with Soy Sauce

Ingredients ( for 3 servings)

  • 250g prawns
  • 1 tbsp. shredded Ginger  
  • 4 cloves of Garlic  
  • 2 tbsp. chopped Spring Onions  
  • Cooking oil as required

Sauce Mix

  • 1 tsp. light soy sauce 
  • 2 tsp. dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp. oyster sauce 
  • 1 tsp. chilli sauce 
  • Sesame Oil (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Method

Clean and devein the prawns. Wash properly and set aside.

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients mentioned under seasoning. Check the taste & Keep aside.

Heat oil on a frying pan. Fry the prawn till it changes the colour. Remove the fried prawns to another dish and keep them aside.

In the same pan, sauté shredded ginger. Once the ginger starts emitting aroma, add prawns that we kept aside to the pan.

Add the seasoning mix to the prawns. Mix well. Sprinkle the chopped spring onions and serve.
