Why Caramel Makes a Great Christmas Present

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi December 14, 2017
Why Caramel Makes a Great Christmas Present

Christmas is almost upon us. If you have not decided what to get your loved ones or your colleagues, then you have definitely come to the right place. The easiest gift to give that you know will not be returned in January, or perhaps even be thrown into the bottom of some dark closet, is edible goodies. Chocolate, artistically decorated candies, homemade efforts, and of course the one thing that is loved across the globe, and has never missed a Christmas yet, is caramels.

The first decision is which edible treat do you wrap and gift? Chocolates are really so Valentine’s Day like, and decorated candies may come across as an immature gift for an immature adult. Caramels are definitely the timeless gift that says, Merry Christmas with a perfect melt in your mouth promise.

So, caramels it will be then. Now should you be an absolute wizard in the kitchen, then making your own batch of delicious caramels is the way to go. Packaging is simple and can be bought at any gift shop, or even online. A brilliant speedy recipe for scrumptiously dreamy caramels is the one below:

The Ingredients:

1/2 Cup of Sugar

3 Tbsp light Corn Syrup

12 Tbsp of Butter

14 Oz Condensed Milk (Sweetened)

1/2 Tsp Vanilla

Course Sea Salt

What Now?

Grab your medium sized saucepan and melt your butter and sugar together on a medium heat.

Once melted, stir in the condensed milk and the light corn syrup.

Bring this mixture to a boil and then immediately turn down the heat and allow to simmer for approximately 7 – 10 minutes.

Once the mixture is a rich dark golden color, take it off the stove.

Stir in your 1/2 tsp vanilla.

Pour the mixture into an 8 x 8 inch pan that you have lined with foil.

Lightly sprinkle the course sea salt.

Wait for your caramels to cool completely, it can take anywhere from 1 – 2 hours.

When you are 100% positive that they are completely cooled, cut them into squares and wrap as you wish in wax paper. Success!

Now if you only use the kitchen to make a dozen cups of coffee like I do and you’re pretty sure that once you have cooked, wrapped and created your own caramels that they won’t look presentable enough to pass as the perfect Christmas present, you swallow your pride and you turn to the experts.

If you have never heard of a Chief Caramel Scientist, you have now. Jason McCrea’s life purpose is to continuously create the best caramel in the world. So far, he has succeeded at building his Caramel empire, McCrea’s. His caramels put many kitchen wizards to shame, and why? Because Jason has dedicated his entire life to the art of caramel perfection. McCrea’s caramels have even become a huge trend in corporate gifting. The exquisite packaging matches the incredible taste and Jason offers you the greatest gift to give this Christmas. Why? Because they will be back for more, and so will you.

This Christmas, give the gift of caramels!  It will surely be appreciated.
