With Sri Lankan roots I have the practice of making herbal teas frequently that prevent cold and flu. Basically ginger and coriander tea is one of the popular herbal drinks in Sri Lanka which most people use when they experience cold or flu symptoms.
It is easy to find these ingredients. Preparation is easier than you think. With its connection to Ayurveda or indigenous medicine these are popular herbal treatments for Sri Lankans to prevent cold and flu.
Although most Sri Lankans know these recipes I though it is better to share as a blog post in order to share these traditional cold prevention teas with others.

Well, it is easy to visit a doctor and get advice and treatments for cold and flu. This is the practice nowadays. It is easy to get some tablets and pills when you experience cold and flu. However you need to improve your immune system to prevent and fight with common colds. As per many experts if you catch common cold frequently then that indicates signals about your immune system. This is why it is important to take actions to improve your immune system to prevent cold.
How to prevent from getting cold and flu?
Preventing cold and flu is easy when you practice common good hygiene practices. These basic things include avoiding the contact of bacteria and viruses that spread the cold and flu. Healthy lifestyle is a key factor to prevent cold and flu which results runny nose and throat aches. Other than good hygiene it is important to add food full of vitamins and nutrients to your meal. Fresh fruits and vegetables are sources of vitamin C and other vitamins which help you to boost the immune system.

Specially if your kids experience cold and flu symptoms it is better to fuel them with natural foods that help to fight with cold and flu. Below are some Sri Lankan herbal teas that are popular for its ability to fight with cold and flu. These teas are with many benefits of boosting the immune system.
1. Ginger coriander tea (Inguru Koththamalli)
If you ask any Sri Lankan what is ‘Inguru Koththamalli tea?’ they know it. It is popular among Sri Lankan families as a remedy for cold and flu. It is same at my home too. Simply boil Coriander with ginger to prepare this tea. Coriander and ginger are known as ingredients that can boost the immune system which is helpful for your body to fight with flu. 2. Pas Panguwa (five ingredients)
Pas Panguwa is another herbal preparation from Sri Lanka. This is a treatment for cold and flu. It includes 5 types of herbals that are good for fighting with flu which includes Coriander, Ginger, Pathpadagam, Katuwelbatu and Weniwelgeta. You can boil a packet to get rid of flu. But nowadays there are tea bags with these ingredients which are easy to prepare by adding boiling water.
3. Dasa Panguwa (Ten ingredients)
This includes 10 ingredients and it is easily available in Ayurvedic Medicinal shops. Boil a packet with water to prepare the tea.
4. Honey lime tea
Although this is not a Sri Lankan tea I like to mention it here as it is helpful when you have sore throat and cough. Honey lime tea comforts and sooth your throat magically. You can check this honey lime tea recipe which I have shared before.
