Sri Lankan Drumstick Curry (Murunga Curry)

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi October 21, 2013

Sri Lankan Drumstick Curry (Murunga Curry)

Drumstick curry /(Murunga Curry) is another popular curry from Sri Lanka. Usually I cook this at home specially when we need a mild spicy curry. Here I share a mild spicy version of Drumstick curry which is cooked with green chili. It is mild spicy due to use of green chili and appearance is bit pale than with red chili powder. On the other way, eating drumstick is quiet enjoyable because we have to eat the flesh inside and need to remove the skin part. Those who love Drumsticks (murunga) will agree with me.

Here is the recipe for Sri Lankan style Drumstick Curry (Murunga Curry)
Ingredients: (for 3-4 servings)

Drumstick (Murunga) 250g
2-3 green chili sliced lengthwise
½ medium sized onion sliced
1 sprig curry leaves
1inch piece pandan leaf/(rampa) –(optional)
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp fenugreek seeds
Piece of cinnamon
Salt to taste
1 cup thin coconut milk
1 cup thick coconut milk
¼ tspn of mustard seeds-grinded
Method
Wash & remove skin of drumsticks.
Cut it into pieces of about 3-4 inches.
Put drumsticks in a cooking pan & mix all other ingredients mentioned above.(other than thick coconut milk and grounded mustard)
Cook in low heat until drumsticks are cooked. Then add thick coconut milk and stir well.
Adjust salt to taste.
Switch off the burner.
Finally sprinkle grounded mustard seeds on top.
Mix well.

Hi,Glad to know that you liked this dish.Drumstick will match with prawns as well in this same recipe…
Also we use tomato in most of the curries together with coconut milk.
If you read scheduled recipe for tomorrow,it will be a basic curry recipe with tomato and coconut milk….
