Rice Recipes

Jeera rice

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi May 19, 2011

I found this recipe from a food Blog. However I wanted to try this recipe as rice is our main dish. Wow!! It was so delicious & easy to prepare too.
Jeera is Cumin seed & in this recipe Jeera is the main ingredient & it gives a good different taste.
This is my recipe for preparing Jeera rice.

Ingredients
500g  Basmati rice or long grained rice (washed and strained for few mins)
1 Onion (sliced)
1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeera)
2-3 Cardamom
2-3 Cloves
A  Cinnamon stick
1 Chicken stock  (if prefer)
3 green Chillies
few mint leaves
2 tsp Ginger and Garlic (paste)
100 gms of Ghee/butter  or vegetable oil
Salt to taste
Method

Heat oil/ghee or butter in a pan.
When the oil is hot add cumin seeds (jeera), cardamoms, cloves and cinnamon stick
Then add sliced onion &  Fry until it is golden brown .
Add green chilies(cut into lengths), mint and ginger-garlic paste.  Fry them for about 2 minutes.
Add Rice and fry few minutes until the rice grains become pop out from the pan.
Then cook rice by adding correct water in the same pan or you can change the mix to a rice cooker.

When cooking the rice add salt & chicken stock too.

Jeera rice is ready to serve.
