Pattis is a Sri Lankan appetizer which can be used for tea time.It is easy to cook when you have a delicious filling and when you know how to make the pattis dough.After the basic preparation,pattis are deep fried and served.In Malaysia and Singapore,we can find similar food called curry puff.When I check the recipes around the world,I found that Sri Lankan pattis is much more similar to Mexican Empanadas too.The cooking style is same,only the ingredients inside the filling may differ.If you like exploring different Sri Lankan Recipes,then try patties.You will sure love the taste.
Although the pictures in this image may not clear,I am sharing the step by step photos on how to make Sri Lankan pattis.If you look for how to cook curry puff or how to cook Mexican Empanadas ,folow the same steps.But,check the filling for different cuisine.
Recipe: Sri Lankan Patties (Curry puff)
Ingredients for dough:
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup margarine/butter
1 1/4 cups cold water, or as needed
In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and salt.
Add margarine into the flour & mix, until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add water a few tablespoons at a time, until the mixture forms a dough & not sticky.
Then wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
Then make the filling. There many options for this.

Now make the patties. Dust some flour on a board and roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
Cut circles with a pastry cutter. Spoon some of the filling on it.Then wrap & seal the edges with a fork.
In this stage you can keep the pattis in a deep freezer about 2-3 weeks & fry when you want.
Deep fry the pattis & serve hot.
