Sri Lankan Devilled Chicken Recipe in Chef Duminda’s Style

written by Amila Gamage Wickramarachchi October 16, 2012
Devilled Chicken recipe
Devilled Chicken is a popular Sri Lankan Chicken recipe which mostly served with Fried Rice. This is one of the recipes I used to try most of the weekends, when I was in Sri Lanka. However with the time, I have forgotten this dish as now I have so many recipes book marked. Last weekend, I found this Devilled Chicken Recipe again from Chef Duminda’s site.

Chinese Chicken Devilled

Chef Duminda is a Sri Lankan Celebrity Chef. If you have noticed, I have few posts about him in my blog. He is a friendly character and shares his secret food recipes with his fans.Check tofu brinjal salad recipe.

Here is the Sri Lankan Devilled Chicken Recipe adapted from Chef Duminda. You can find more great recipes and product reviews from our friends at the Village Bakery.

Recipe: Sri Lankan Devilled Chicken Recipe

Ingredients (For 1 serving dish)
250g boneless chicken
1 medium size onion
2 tspn ginger  garlic paste
1-2 green chilies
1 tbspn red chili flakes (kali miris)
1 Red bell pepper/or banana peppers (Malu miris)
2 tbspn tomato sauce
1 tbspn soy sauce
Cooking Oil
Salt, pepper as required.

Method
Cut chicken into bite size pieces. Deep fry chicken. Slice onion, green chili and bell pepper. Keep aside.

In a separate bowl, mix tomato sauce & soy sauce together. Keep aside.
In a pan, heat 3 teaspoons of oil. When oil is hot, add ginger garlic paste. Then add chili flakes. Mix well. In few seconds, add the sauce mixture & allow the sauce to become thick. Then add chicken, onion, red pepper & green chili. Mix well.
Add some salt & pepper as required.
Mix well. Serve hot with Fried Rice.
Adding of Chinese Chili Paste would be great with Fried rice & Devilled Chicken.Vegetable chop suey is another great side for this combination.

Enjoy!!

Notes:
If you want to have some more gravy or wetness in this dish,
– mix 1 tbspn of corn flour/all purpose flour in half cup of warm water.
-Mix this with tomato & soy sauce mix mentioned in above.
-Adjust the tomato sauce as per taste.
-Use this mix instead of just tomato sauce & soy sauce.Cook till you get the required gravy thickness….

This recipe caught my eye when I was on your site. Devilled chicken…that sounds delicious. Is it a salty dish? I’m always trying to cut back on my salt intake. It looks good, for sure.

I have been buying this for a couple of years now from curry shop nearby.it is one of my favourite foods and eat at least once a week.i didn’t think it would be hard to make so gave your recipe a try today and it turned out perfect.Just the same as I buy from authentic sri lankan shop.I did make one mistake and that was to add the tomato and soy sauce last, but this made no difference at all.thank you for such an easy fast and relatively cheap but delicious recipe.
